KURDS is an autonomous community-based public utility organization that is humanitarian, non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit. Established in 1991 as an Iraqi nongovernmental organization with the Kurdistan Region Government (KRG), KURDS aims to rebuild areas destroyed by arbitrary wars and internal conflicts, respond to natural or man-made disasters to accomplish its essential goals, and develop the targeted communities by bringing attention to a variety of issues through awareness programs about health, education, women's social and political rights, violence against women, gender equity in rights and duties, and capacity building programs. Through coordination among the beneficiaries of national and international agencies, KURDS simultaneously seeks to improve the socioeconomic circumstances and environment of the targeted locations.
