9th Jun 2016; KURDS NGO and UNICEF Celebrate International Children's Day
Laughter Rings Out in Khanke: KURDS NGO and UNICEF Celebrate International Children's Day
In a vibrant chorus of laughter and song, Khanke camp echoed with the spirit of joy on International Children's Day. On June 1st, 2016, KURDS NGO, in collaboration with UNICEF, orchestrated a day of pure fun and celebration for the camp's young residents.
Stepping away from the challenges of displacement, children were swept into a world of vibrant colours, captivating music, and enchanting stories. Faces transformed with whimsical animal designs thanks to face painting, while toes tapped and hands clapped to energetic music that filled the air. The magic of storytelling transported children on fantastical journeys, igniting their imaginations and sparking wonder in their eyes.
"For a day, we wanted to create a space where these children could simply be kids," explains [Name of KURDS NGO representative], [Title]. "Their smiles and laughter were the most rewarding reminder of why we do what we do – to bring moments of joy and normalcy back into their lives."
Beyond the merriment, this celebration held deeper significance. The activities fostered valuable learning opportunities, encouraging creativity, social interaction, and emotional well-being. Laughter served as a potent antidote to the hardships faced by these young individuals, reminding them of the resilience and joy that reside within each of them.
Through this collaborative effort, KURDS NGO and UNICEF reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing the well-being of every child, even amidst the complexities of displacement. The echoing laughter from Khanke camp stood as a testament to the power of joy, imagination, and the unwavering spirit of children, offering a glimpse of a brighter future for all.
25th Apr 2012; KURDS NGO Marks World Water Day, 2012
Celebrating Water and Life: KURDS NGO Marks World Water Day, 22nd Mar 2012
In recognition of the vital role water plays in our world and lives, KURDS NGO proudly participated in commemorating International World Water Day 2012. With the theme "Water and Food Security", the day served as a powerful reminder of the critical link between sustainable water management and the fight against hunger and famine.
KURDS NGO's World Water Day project, spanning across Duhok, Erbil, and Sulaymaniyah governorates, aimed to engage and empower school communities within both rural and urban settings. Recognizing the crucial role of student awareness in environmental protection and social well-being, the project sought to:
Promote student action: By encouraging participation in picture exhibitions and short plays focused on water conservation, the project empowered students to become agents of change within their communities.
Highlight the role of schools: Schools served as key platforms for fostering environmental awareness and building sustainable practices. The project emphasized their importance as centres of education and catalysts for building responsible citizens.
Strengthen collaboration: Working hand-in-hand with education directorates, local authorities, and media outlets, the project fostered a collaborative environment dedicated to amplifying the message of water conservation.
Beyond interactive activities, the project disseminated informative materials such as posters and t-shirts adorned with the World Water Day logo. Additionally, a radio debate on Duhok Radio, featuring Mr. Ziyad Abdullah, Director of the General Directorate of Irrigation in Duhok, tackled the critical themes of water's importance, efficient water usage, and resource protection.
By actively engaging communities in these diverse initiatives, KURDS NGO successfully leveraged World Water Day 2012 to raise awareness about water's vital role in food security and overall well-being. In doing so, the project left a lasting impact, empowering students, schools, and communities to become stewards of this precious resource and build a more sustainable future for Kurdistan.
